Ice Ice Baby!

We had Christmas with my Dad and Betty this year on Sunday the 21st of December. They live in Austin so when they visit we usually only get to spend a few hours with them before they have to go see my brother and his family. This visit they decided to come and spend one day with each family and it was very nice.

They arrived at our house Sunday morning and we spent the morning opening Christmas presents and playing. Dad and Betty gave the kids a Kangaroo climber which was an instant hit. Ethan spent the entire day in it and many days since then. Anything that the kids can safely climb on is wonderful since climbing is their favorite thing to do. Of course the kids had to help Dad and Dallas construct their new toy.

We loved wrapping paper this year.

The box is always a hit as well.

The kids were all over Grandma BB and she couldn't finish reading one book before they would have another one ready to go.

We decided to take the opportunity to go do something together since we had a longer time to visit. I have been wanting to go see the ICE exhibit at the Gaylord Resort in Grapevine for years and never have been able to make it. I mentioned it to Dad and Betty when they arrived and they were very interested as well. We prepared everything to go while the kids napped and we headed out the door as soon as they got up and ate snack. We arrived around 4 pm and started our journey to the back of the hotel where the ICE exhibit was located. Once we reached the line to buy tickets we realized we had forgotten to get the kids leashes out of the car. They had been satisfied riding in the stroller up until this point but now that the walk had ended and they wanted out.
Dallas decided to run back to the car and get the them while we waited. I recruited Betty for assistance in the diaper department while Dad waited in line. After diapers we decided to let the kids run free well they decided they weren't going back in the stroller! Betty took Ethan and I took Paige. Like I have said in the past my kids like to run, run and run some more. I simply walked about two steps behind Paige as she tore through the place. She would stop and turn around every once in a while and make sure I was still behind her. Betty wasn't quite as comfortable with the idea of just following them with no means of control. She was probably a little nervous after Ethan gave her a scare by ducking behind a door while she wasn't looking. Trust me Betty it can be frustrating even with the harnesses. Eventually Dallas returned and it was time to go in. We all bundled up in our jackets and headed into the 9 degree ICE exhibit.

I was a little nervous as to how the kids would act but they were great. They looked at everything very intently and didn't seem bothered by the fact that they could not move their arms or head in those jackets. They looked like the kid from The Christmas Story when he is all dressed up for winter. They were so damn cute! There was only one time the kids got bored when we were stuck in the congestion from the ice slide. We played and they did touchdown until the line started moving again.

Touchdown ICE style! That was as far as they could get their arms up. Hilarious!

The exhibit was absolutely amazing! I had wanted to see it for so long and it was impressive. I can't get ice out of my freezer without making a mess let alone carve out an entire manger scene. The kids did wonderful and we all had a really nice time together. Thank you so much Dad and Betty for going with us to see it!
