He can see!

I have been with Dallas for many years and we have discussed the options for vision repair for a long time. A couple months ago I decided to stop waiting and make the appointment to at least see if he was a candidate for lasik vision repair. I made "free consultation" appointment with Dr. Boothe for March 31st and he was very excited to hear what they had to say.

First of all for any of you thinking about going for your "free consultation" it is NOT free! The chance to see Dr. Boothe and meet the legend will run you exactly $150.00. When you arrive you fill out paperwork and then you go straight to financing and some pushy guy in a suit throws numbers at you. They tell you that they require a non refundable deposit of $150 to even see the doctor. I imagine most people feels so hurried into the decision that they mildly object but not Dallas. When you say FREE you better mean free. He called me a hundred times spitting numbers at me just as they were coming to him. I was at work and less than enthused about the calls. I finally told him pay the stinking money so we will know for sure whether this is an option or not. He paid the money through zero interest on a Care card they provided. Before he knew it they had brought him paperwork on his new credit card with a $7000 balance and a bill for $150 due in three months or you would default. Poor Dallas was so upset. We don't make financial decisions without thoroughly discussing it together and all the sudden he had a credit account with a large balance. I didn't really understand what was going on until he got home later.

He proceeded to meet with Dr. Boothe and he was a perfect candidate for the surgery. He had great tear ducks and the pressure of his eyes was among some of the best. Once he talked with the doctor they wanted to schedule an appointment for that Thursday morning. They told him it would cost $300 less if he did it this week. They were running a 1/2 off special and we were already getting a deal but $300 is $300 either way you look at it. Dallas was extremely irritated about the way he felt they pressured you into everything without one minute to think about it. He called and explained everything to me. I said lets do it we can always cancel it if we change our minds. So he agreed to 4:30 on Thursday.

Once he got home and we started looking over the paperwork he realized he had signed up for surgery at 4:30 IN THE MORNING! WHAT!!! The office was in Plano off Coit and the tollway. We would have to get a hotel room or leave at 2:30 am to be there an hour earlier. I called the next morning and got it rescheduled for Friday at 7 am. Much more reasonable.

Once we took a closer look at all the financing we were very happy with it. We paid for the procedure with a Care Credit account. The entire amount was financed at 0% interest for two years. We used some of our flex spending account towards the balance to knock down the amount we financed. We ended up paying $90.00 a month with no interest for two years for Dallas to be able to wake up in the morning and see!

My mom came over Thursday evening and spent the night. She took the kids to daycare for us and we were at the office at 7 am. They took Dallas in immediately and told me he would be done in a few hours. I gave them my cell phone number and I left. It was too early to stop by my brother's house and not much is open that early. I ended up at Walmart and then Target to kill time until Wendy called me back. I stopped by to visit her and the kids for a little bit. I had been there ten minutes and get the call that he will be ready in 30 mins. Crap! I hung out for a little bit longer and then went to pick him up.

We signed the final papers and were on our way home. He had big sunglasses that he had to wear for a few weeks anytime he was outside. They weren't that bad really they could have been the giant cataract glasses old people have to wear. He was so excited!!! He could already see! He said he could see better and better as we got closer to home. He just kept saying "Wow"! I felt bad for waiting this long to have it done.

He said that it did not hurt at all. They put numbing drops in constantly and he was doped up on Adavan. He said all you really see is laser lights the entire time. His eyes had black permanent marker dots on four points around his cornea where they had to cut the cornea flap. UGH! I know it sounds horrible but it wasn't painful at all according to Dallas. Then the actual laser correction is all of a few seconds and your done. Drops, drops and more drops that was the key. His eyes were really blood shot but they didn't look much different than after a long day at work with his contacts.

He had to come back on Monday so they could take the small medicated lens out of his eyes. His check up went well. He had to put all kinds of drops in for weeks and weeks. The only thing Dallas really disliked was the shields he had to sleep in for a week. They were literally two round plastic clear eye patches that you had to take to your face. You can not touch your eyes at all and that includes in your sleep. He whined and moaned just like a man about wearing them. He would sleep in the chair sitting up so he wouldn't touch his eyes nor have to wear that taped shield. Men!

He has since been back for another checkup and had an excellent report. He has 20/15 in one eye and 20/25 in the other. The one that is 20/25 will continue to get better over the next couple months. Dr. Boothe was confident that Dallas will have 20/15 vision in both eyes when all changes are complete. We are so happy we made this decision!!! He Can See!!!
