Visit with Grandpa John and Grandma Be Be

This weekend Grandpa John and Grandma Be Be came to visit us on Saturday. They live in Austin so we only see them every once in a while. They arrived when the kids were eating their morning snack and they were so happy to see them. The kids finished their snacks in a hurry so they could get down and go play. We all spent hours playing together.By far the favorite games of the day were peekaboo in the tunnel, playing with the balls and ball pit, and having fun on the couch which is a blog in itself. Our new problem is the couch and I am so over it. Ethan was having a gassy tummy and wouldn't take his nap so he had a little alone time with his grandparents. Paige took a long nap and kind of threw us off schedule a little so we decided to just get Subway for lunch and bring it home. I was kind of relieved simply because of the hassle of taking the kids out to eat.
After lunch Grandpa John and Grandma Be Be took the kids on a walk in the wagon. It was a little hot but I figured with the cover they would be fine. I sent them each a glass of ice water and sent them on their way. Paige decided she needed to drink the entire glass in the first minute and ended up throwing up around the first corner of the walk. The grandparents improvised nicely and used Grandpa's handkerchief to clean her up. She had just eaten lunch and didn't have room for all that water. She was probably a little impatient as they cleaned her up because she doesn't like to stop when in the wagon. They were all hot when they returned but in high spirits nonetheless. They headed back home around 4pm while I tried to get the kids to take their evening nap but Paige just wasn't having it. She kept singing, playing, and shaking her bed rails which of course kept her brother up. I am so close to separating them into two rooms. They would sleep so much better but I am just not ready to give up our guest room yet. We had a very relaxing evening. Dallas and I attempted to watch a movie at around 8:30 pm but had to slap ourselves the entire time to stay awake. When did we get this damn old!

Thanks Dad and Betty for making the trip! We always enjoy our time together.
PS- Pictures will follow. I didn't take any so I will have to get them for Dad.

Halls of FUN!

The only thing the kids enjoyed more than the fountains at Nana & Granddaddy's house were the halls! Once Nana and I had reached their apartment door we realized that Dallas and Granddaddy had the keys. They were moving the car closer to the apartment. I decided to let the kids down to run around while we waited. They took off!

*picture is blurry but you can see her screaming.
Their apartment is on the third floor and the only entrance is the elevator otherwise it is just really long halls with a lot of doors. Much to their delight the kids soon discovered the echo. They ran up and down the halls screaming with glee! They would stop only to dance around, smile, and take off again. Paige had to make a pit stop once to pee on the neighbors door step. Wonderful. They were still slightly wet and in swimsuits remember.

We let them play in the halls for a while longer on our way out. It was just about the cutest thing I have ever seen. We just could not get over how much fun they were having running and screaming. It surely is the little things, isn't it!

Swimming at Nana & Granddaddy's house

July 4th weekend I had only planned two things to do because I wanted to rest. Besides the parade we were scheduled to go swimming at Julie's house on Saturday afternoon. We have played many times in the small pools at home and at Melissa's house. We have even been swimming in nasty lake water. I still can't believe I went along with that one. We have tried several times to get the kids to a "real" pool this year but it just hadn't happened yet. I was really looking forward to our day in the pool when I received a call from Julie. Derek, her son, woke up with a high fever and a sore throat. We had to cancel our swimming date at Julies. :(

I was damned and determined that we were going swimming. It was so hot! We finally decided to call D's parents and ask if we could go swimming over there. Their apartments have probably 5 different pools. Why have we only been swimming once in the past 4 years over there? Who knows. So we called and the plans were set. This would be the kids first trip to their Nana and Granddaddy's house. We packed up everything and headed out once the kids woke up from their nap and ate their lunch. They live in Las Colinas which is about a 30 min. drive. When we arrived they were waiting downstairs and we headed off to the pool.

We pushed the kids around in the stroller while we scooped out which pool we wanted to swim in. We decided on the furthest pool from us because it had the least amount of people and it had really cool fountains. We got the kids covered in sunscreen and we were in the pool. We had such a great time swimming! Even Nana got in the water with us, yeah for Nana.

After we decided we had been in the pool long enough we packed up and headed back. We needed to give the kids a drink and their sippy cups were out of water. Granddaddy and Nana headed over to the coke machine to get a bottle of water. No water. I thought out of the choices we would try Sprite. Let me tell you a little secret, Sprite+ sippy cup+ pressure applied when closing sippy cup= Sprite Cannon!!! Ethan did not look thrilled when he went to take and drink and got shot in the face with Sprite. We opened the cups and tried to let the pressure out but regardless the Sprite still shot out everywhere. It was great for a good laugh.

We walked back to the car and decided to play in the pool there for a while. They had a fountain that ran into the pool which Granddaddy thought would be great fun. I was of course hesitant but I went along with it. They loved the fountain! They could walk freely since it was only about a foot deep and 2 feet wide. Water was over flowing from the top and the kids could stand under and feel the water. They were thrilled. Then we had to try out the top of the fountain. It was lined with tile so D and I had to climb up with them. They loved that even more. The water was shooting up and they were in heaven. Ethan cried when we took him down.

We all had wrinkled fingers and decided water time was over. We walked back up to the apartment, changed into dry clothes, and had snack. The kids did very well not totally destroying the apartment. They only have one high chair so I opted for Paige to sit in it cause she is more of a wild eater. Ethan sat at a little table in a big boy chair. Dallas, Mr. Paranoid, had to put a towel under him to make sure he didn't make a mess. He didn't drop a bite. After snack we hung out for a while and headed back home. We really had a great time!

Happy 4th of July!

Hope everyone had a great 4th of July! Normally this is not a huge holiday for us. In fact for the past couple of years we haven't even made it to see fireworks which greatly upsets Dallas. Well this year I get A+ for effort and that is all I can say. I really want my kids to get to experience the same things as other kids. I don't want to just say "forget it" because it is too much work for me. So back to the fourth...

We were in our first parade on the 4th! The Mothers of Multiples club has had a float in the July 4th parade in Arlington for over 30 years. How cool is that getting to be in a parade just because you were born. Melissa and I decided we would decorate our wagons and pull the kids. The kids could not ride on the float because of their age. Melissa wanted to decorate them together as to not separate her "quads" but that never happened. I ended up staying up late the two days before the parade decorating the wagon. It all turned out cute enough and I was set. I had everything ready from cameras and batteries to misting fans. We were set to be patriotic!

Now all I needed was my children! Melissa and I had arrived early to get in line and get good parking. We left both of the hubbies at home with the kids but don't fear they both had parents for reinforcement. Dallas was supposed to meet me to drop off the kids at around 10:00 am and we were scheduled to start walking about 10:30- 10:45 am. At almost 9:40 I look over and realize that we are about 3 rows from going. Oh My Goodness! I call Dallas in a panic. How could I go through all this and then pull an empty wagon. Safe to say, I was stressed!

Dallas of course had no idea why I was in a panic when he was still on schedule. He somehow got from our house to the parade in about 12 mins. He did not inform me of this fact until later that day. Regardless our group had already taken off and I still had NO kids. Melissa being the amazing person she is offered to help me get my kids. We literally ran across a huge parking lot and up Cooper St. Dallas pulled up to the blockade and Melissa and I grabbed the kids. Ethan was sound asleep poor baby.

We ran as fast as we could while lugging two kids that weigh 27 lbs or more each. We ran to the street entrance of the parade and realize that there is no way we can catch up. We are at least 10 group behind our group. At this point I am really stressed! Not only are my kids not in the parade but now Melissa is stuck with me and missing her own kids in the parade.

Then a miracle happened. A wonderful man who was with the parade noticed my utter panic and exhaustion and offered to have one of the girls take us to our group. I swear I heard angels!! Melissa and I jumped on the back of the golf cart and away we went. We zoomed around floats, through cheerleaders, and over boy scouts. We finally found our group, jumped out, and threw the kids in the moving wagon which Joel had been pulling for me. (Joel is Melissa's husband.) We seat belted the kids and everything while moving.

Finally on the move...

The parade had not only started a little early but it was moving at an incredible pace. I think that is one of the reasons we went before scheduled. Regardless the Mothers of Multiples parade spot was stretched much much farther than anyone else's simply because of our "additional" duties. Not only were we pulling/ pushing twins we were also constantly misting kids, giving drinks and grapes, and picking up thrown items such as sippy cups. I have never been so impressed! Mothers of twins sure do have incredible fast reaction skills. I had come to the point were I thought I could no longer take another step when out of the crowd runs Dallas. Oh Thank God!!! We immediately made eye contact and the message was clear. "Take this wagon before I die!" "No problem, I got it." With one smooth motion he was pulling the kids and I was free. Now I do admit I am out of shape but the wagon itself is at least 20 lbs and each kids is close to 27 lbs or more. Hello! I am dragging 74 lbs of kids and wagon not including all the crap I had stored in the wagon. I was perfectly fine walking the rest of the way and Dallas was good pulling the last leg of the race. We saw Nana and Granddaddy near the end of the parade and they came and joined us in the parade.

We finished up the parade which was over 2 1/2 miles long without one child crying! No one made a fuss over anything. Amazing, considering it was nap time and it was hot. Once we arrived back in the parking lot the kids discovered all the decor on the wagon. They proceeded to take off as much as possible and eat it. I would not have minded if the letters weren't covered in glitter. So I let them out to run around which was not a good idea. Paige tore off across the parking lot and Nana had to retrieve her.We attempted a group picture on the float and everyone hurried off in different directions to get tired kids and parents home.
Paige started crying once we got to the car but overall they were so wonderful. They were patriotic troopers! Melissa and I are Parade Coordinators for the upcoming year at AMOM. We will be doing this parade again next year and the Christmas parade this December. We will have many parades in our future but we will be riding the float next time. The group decided if a child under 4 wanted to ride the float they would have to be held the entire time. Okay! Sounds good. We all experienced the wagons and we all vote parade float!

Later that evening once everyone could feel their feet again Dallas and I went to watch fireworks. Our wonderful neighbor Jim wasn't doing anything so I ask him to not do anything at our house. We went out towards Joe Pool and set up camp on the median right by the stadium they were shooting them off. The fireworks were good but the traffic after was horrible. We were gone 2 hours total just for fireworks. Dallas was happy so it was worth it.

Hope everyone had a great 4th!

Pictures from the lake

We did a lot of chasing to and from the water.

Paige just couldn't wait...

Paige did not like the grass on her feet. Ethan thought it was cool.

They like to start the dominoe training early in the Morris clan. Aunt Marcia helped Paige score some points.

Look at Nana's face! Paige was making a run for it. Come on Nana you can handle them both running different directions.

Weekend at the lake but first you have to get there

Last weekend was Dallas' family reunion at Possium Kingdom Lake. I have went with him for many years and love the time we get to spend with his family. Every year we rent cabins that generally have a bed, small bathroom, table, tv, and small efficiency kitchen. We have shared a larger cabin with D's parents the last few years and it proved to be the best situation. Well this year I decided we needed to get our own small cabin so the kids could nap undisturbed. We tend to be the "cool" cabin with kids running in and out the entire time. Last year the kids could sleep through anything because they were only two months old. This year would be a whole new ballgame. I had to bring my A game or I would surely be out of control and you know I can't handle that.

I had to work the Friday that we left but Dallas had taken off to help me get ready. I had gotten off a few hours earlier than expected and we were both home running around packing. I had stayed up late the night before doing as much as possible and that helped. Dallas actually did a very good job of doing things that day that is until he had to go to work. He got a call at around 2 pm that said he had to go put some loser on crisis suspension immediately. He cussed, threw a fit, and went to work. I was surprisingly not upset I simply went into super strength mode. I finished packing and loaded the car. I was very impressed with my already masterful packing skills. I managed to fit damn near everything but the kitchen sink in the car and left just enough space for the kids! They literally had bags between them, towering behind them, and stacked up to their feet. D's parents had to come by the house and put the essentials that could not be maneuvered into our car into their already tightly packed vehicle. I had planned originally to leave at 4 to go pick up the kids and head to the lake but Dallas was not back from work and it was nearing 5 pm. I decided to go get the kids and swing back by to pick him up. They looked ever so concerned when they were thrown into the packed car and they could barely see each other. Eventually they seemed to enjoy the chaos... who's children are they? We picked up dad and hauled out of town.

We were of course behind schedule but I had brought snacks for the car and Melissa had fed them a heavy snack to ensure we could make it to the lake before they were hungry. Nope that didn't work. They started crying for food before we even made it to Weatherford. I fed them puffs handfuls at a time to buy us some time. Eventually Paige caught on and demanded something more so I jumped out and grabbed anything I could find that was car friendly. I was now giving them crackers and they were happy or so we thought... The next sound I hear is one of the top most dreaded sounds a parent can hear in a car. Ethan had taken too big of a bite of cracker, choked on it, and threw up all over himself. Oh fun! Sign me up, I love road trips with twins! We pull over and clean everything up all the while Paige is crying because she wants another cracker. We are finally back on the road and now we are concentrated on finding somewhere to feed these little piggies. We arrive in Mineral Wells and Dallas spots a Braum's. I swear I heard angels singing.

We run inside and I grab a banana, a jar of peaches, and some water. Dallas had already ordered some chicken and we are back on top. We get the kids fed much to the amusement of Mineral Wells residence. The kids were acting like we hadn't fed them in months! We were back on the road crisis averted and almost to the camp grounds. We arrived at the cabin around 7:30pm which is 30 mins after their bedtime. I handed the kids off immediately and set out to get the cabin in order so the kids could go to bed. I got the cabin set up in about an hour and the kids were so ready for bed. Ethan had already fell head first into a cast iron bbq grill and Paige had bites all over her little legs. They were so extremely tired that they had no problem sleeping that night at all.

The video monitor worked out great and had reception all the way to the lake, D's parents cabin, and to the meeting hall. We had finally arrived and all was well now if I could only sleep it would be perfect. I was so paranoid about how cold it was in the room and whether or not the kids were okay I actually slept with a flash light in my hand! I know, I know.

The reunion itself was really fun. The kids loved running around all over the place. Saturday morning Paige walked around Nana and Granddaddy's cabin at least 6 times just because she could. We took them swimming in the lake which was great except Paige kept drinking the lake water, gross! Ethan likes to "chill" in a floatie but Paige wants to take off swimming when she is in the water. She wanted you to hold her out so she could kick, splash, and drink infested lake water. My only complaint is how much work it is to keep up with the twins schedule while away from home. We didn't have a clock in the cabin but it was easy to tell what time it was by what the kids were doing. I felt like I was feeding, chasing, or changing one or both of them the entire time! Oh I was so exhausted!

Paige had been rather fussy the entire time crying out of the middle of nowhere. I thought it was her ear infection she had had in her left ear a few weeks prior. She kept messing with that ear and she had a recheck appt. on the following Monday. I gave her Tylenol, Motrin, and teething tabs but nothing really seemed to help that much. She did not sleep well Saturday night therefore neither did I. She was in bed with me, in her playpen, and no matter what I did she would not sleep. My lovely husband had added to it all by jumping in my bed earlier that night in between me and the playpens, hello!!! I had to crawl over him several times to see her. If I needed to adjust the ac or anything it was over the hubby and piles of bags and stuff at the end of the bed. he beds made very loud creeks every move you made and the floor did as well. Now to fully get the visual you have to imagine me slowly creeping over everything waiting in between creeks to make sure I didn't wake anyone. If it wasn't that it was me running into things because the entire cabin was pitch black. I had put blankets over the window upon arrival so they would be able to nap in the middle of the day in a strange place. It would have been truly comical to anyone but me. To top it all off my husband had brought his dying phone in the cabin that night and it was beeping loudly every few minutes. I of course could not find it nor could I wake him up.

Safe to say I was not in the best mood Sunday morning. The kids and I got up at the butt crack of dawn as usual. I changed their diapers, got them ready, and fed them while their Daddy slept happily. They were into everything while I tried to get stuff ready to start packing up. Ethan dumped a bag of shredded cheese and Paige got stuck in between the bed and the playpen somehow. It was just all together time to go. I loaded the kids up in the stroller and we went to have strawberry pancakes at the meeting hall. May I just say, "Yum"! I dumped the kids with the grandparents and proceeded to pack everything to head home. We had a plan to return home and I was determined this one would go accordingly. We were scheduled to leave after their snack but before their first nap therefore they would sleep the entire way home. We pulled it off this time and were on the road at 10:40 am only 10 mins after nap time. The kids were asleep within minutes of us leaving the camp grounds and I was not far behind. I cried on the way home from over exhaustion and then eventually I fell asleep.

Before I knew it we were home. We unpacked the car and handed the kids over to Grammy. She was our relief! We went to take a nap before it was time to get up and get ready for the Stone Temple Pilots concert we were attended that night. I know, I thought it was crazy too but Dallas talked me into going before I knew it conflicted with the reunion dates. We were going with friends so I couldn't just back out. After our nap I felt revived and we headed out to meet our friends. We had a great time at the concert and were home by 11:30 pm.

Monday morning my Mom, Grammie, was still there to watch the kids so we could sleep in. We woke up at around 9:40 am only to find that the kids had slept until 9:00 am! What?
They never sleep that late for us. Safe to say the lake wore us all out but it was all worth it. We will do it all over again next year.

Our BIG Kid Chairs

When the kids were younger we bought them a little fold out Elmo couch. They have loved it since the minute they saw it. They used to eat their bottles on it together everyday. Once they started running out of room and we moved on to the sippy cups I knew that they needed to have their own space. Uncle Jim and our friends Nate and Tammy purchased a pink and blue bean bag chair for their 1st birthday. The kids loved the chairs but they had problems sitting in them. Since the chairs were bean bags inside whenever the kids sat down they just slid out. They weren't old enough to scoot their butts back and make a spot. I decided to return the bean bag chairs and use the money towards chairs with foam inside. I wanted to get the anywhere chairs from Pottery Barn for Kids because Ethan and Paige LOVE the ones that the sitter has at her house. I ask Melissa, the sitter, what size her chairs were and she said they were the oversized anywhere chairs. So that was it, I was on a mission!

The chairs were sold online separately from the slipcovers. The chair inserts were priced at $80.00 each and the slipcovers at $49.00 plus shipping. Are you kidding me!!! Well I am proud to say I purchased both inserts and slipcovers for less than one full set on potterybarn.com. Oh Yeah, Go Me!!!

We received the chairs last week and the kids LOVE them especially Ethan. We were quite surprised to see the size of the chairs once we got them. Apparently Melissa's chairs are the original anywhere chairs and we ordered the oversized. They are huge! Oh well the kids will be able to sit in them forever so it will be more worth the money in the long run.

Ethan is absolutely adorable in the chairs. He lays sideways with his feet up on one arm. He lays upside down with his head hanging and he even tips it over and sits on the back. This morning I sat the two chairs up side by side and the kids climbed in them immediately. Ethan decided Paige's chair looked better than his and tried to get in it with her. She corrected him quickly with a foot to the ass and he hurried back to his own chair. Oh these times are the most precious. I absolutely love these two kiddos!!!

Look at sister's chair, huh...

Hers looks better...

Oh yeah, almost there...

Yep fits great...

OH NO YOU DON'T!!!

And down he goes w/one kick...

Up & back to his chair...

Look at Paige watch Ethan & protect her chair...

Okay note to self don't mess with sister's chair!!!
